About our dōjō
The Higashi Wakahisa Iaidō Circle is a local iaidō dōjō located in the Minami Ward of Fukuoka City. Our dōjō is dedicated to the legitimate transmission of Musō Shinden Jūshin Ryū, a school of swordsmanship that has a history of almost 500 years. Our dōjō is the only satellite branch of the Tekisuijuku dōjō and was established with direct permission from Sakai Takeshi sensei. Our dōjō leader is the first and only foreigner in Japan to teach this school, and instruction can also be provided in English. We are a member of the Fukuoka Kendō Federation and the All Japan Kendō Federation, so we also practise the Zen Nippon Kendō Renmei Iai techniques.
Whether you are interested in Japanese traditions or the Japanese sword, or you just want to keep fit and focussed, feel free to get in touch via the Contact page to observe or take part in a lesson. We welcome new members regardless of age, gender or nationality. So, why not try out iaidō, which develops courtesy, patience, mental strength and concentration, improves fitness, relieves stress and promotes overall good health.
